DVD silkscreen printing is a technique that uses a woven mesh stretched over an aluminum or wood frame to support an ink-blocking design or stencil. Originally, the silkscreen printing mesh was woven from human hair and then, as technology evolved, silk became the dominant mesh material. Most silkscreen meshes are currently made of materials such as steel, nylon, and polyester. The stencil design forms clear areas that transfer ink as a sharp, well-defined image onto the disk material below. A squeegee is moved across the mesh, forcing or squeezing ink in the open areas past the threads and onto the disk face below.
SLI Manufacturing also offers offset printing on the disc face of DVD-Rs in addition to silkscreen.
